A tradition that I want to return to the PastorMarkRogers website is talking about one of my favorite topics…coffee. The beginning of the year is a great time to review some of my favorites over the past twelve months. You will see that I tend to lean or gravitate towards a darker roast.
As a quick reminder, I typically (but not always) purchase whole beans and grind them myself. My brewing process varies between French press, pour-over, and AeroPress. And both of my kids are decent in using all three. With my kids consuming more coffee, I will look into a brewing pot system in the upcoming year.
Also, remember, it’s okay to have fun occasionally and enjoy the journey that God has placed us on.
Everyday Driver: Counter Culture – Forty-Six
Like most people, I want something consistent, delicious, and available for an “everyday coffee.” And while I enjoy supporting the local roasters in my area, Forty-Six has been a coffee I enjoyed over and over this last year. So it was because of that enjoyment, Forty-Six became that consistent bag that I reached for when it was time to purchase.
Here are a few reasons that continue to make it my favorite:
- Roasted Date (not just a best-by date)
- Readily available in my local grocery stores (I can typically find it at Ingles, Target, and other places that I frequently visit)
- Forty-Six tastes good regardless of whether I drink it black, hot or iced, or with cream.
Special Occasion: Red Rooster – Funky Chicken
I understand that coffee is easier to find with the interwebs than it once was. However, what I like about this coffee is that it’s not carried by coffee shops or grocery stores near me. However, when we travel, and we travel more often with my daughter on a travel volleyball team, I find it and typically ask for it in pour-over or a French press (both are some of my favorite ways of enjoying coffee). And yes, it is worth it to me every time.
Great Cause Coffee: Seven Weeks – Faith Blend (Dark)
Simply, Seven Weeks is a great cause with great coffee. As you read this, I want you to remember that you are reading it on a pastor’s website. So, of course, I will support a group like Seven Weeks, which supports pro-life movements. I ordered a Blend Bundle for a women’s conference at church, and I was pleased with the quality and the entire experience. I would encourage you to check out their website and learn more about them.
Coffee for the Masses: Seattle’s Best 6th Avenue Bistro
I catch some flack, especially in the church, because I do not particularly enjoy the pre-ground stuff found in a giant red can at the local Walmart. Is it warm and offers caffeine? Yes. Does it offer any flavor? Um…if I add enough creamer. So, when it is my responsibility to caffeinate a lot of people, I tend to lean towards something like Seattle’s Best. (And yes, I know they are owned by the other massively popular coffee chain from Seattle.) I typically can find this at a variety of stores. That variety typically, but not always, lends itself to the item being on sale somewhere.
