“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” Psalm 34:8
An ice-cold Dr. Pepper, a warm chocolate chip cookie, fresh sheets on a newly made bed, a drive with the windows down on a hot summer’s day. Do you know what all these things have in common? These are all things that I have tasted and craved.
What does it mean to taste something? To taste something is to perceive or to experience it. To taste it and be able to distinguish it. Once we have tasted something that brings us joy, don’t you find yourself craving it from time to time?
Do we crave?
So, what does it mean to crave something? It’s a feeling of yearning for or longing for something. Have you noticed that sometimes, when you crave something in particular, nothing else seems to satisfy you until you get that thing you are craving? Yeah, that happens to me too! Have you ever prayed to God for something repeatedly? And then, when you least expected it, God answered your prayer?
That has happened to me. About two years ago, I had a cry in my heart that I prayed over and over to God. My grandmother had passed away, and I was going to be homeless. I would cry out to Him and find myself falling asleep at night with tears running down my face. What else could I do? I was broken.
I had tried to control the situation by myself and was unsuccessful. Everywhere I turned was a dead in. Yet, God heard my cries. He heard my heart. (I sought the LORD, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Ps 34:4) God answered my prayers. He answered in a way that only He could. He brought the most precious family into my life that I ultimately would end up renting from. I had tasted God in those moments, in His provision, and it was good. I had tasted His goodness before and knew this was from God. This is only one of my stories.
There are so many more!
Jodi’s Takeaway:
What am I hoping you can take away from this? GOD IS WORTH CRAVING!
God is real to me, and I want God to be real to you! If you have never accepted God as your personal Savior, today is a great day to taste and see! Does that mean we will never have hard times, or everything will always be rainbows? Absolutely not!
But friends, God loves to care for those who trust in Him. Once you have tasted His goodness, His grace, His love, and His forgiveness, I can promise you it is something that you will want to share with the world. (I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Ps 34:1)
So here is my challenge to you. Do you dare to crave? Do you dare to experience a love like no other? It’s overwhelming, but friends, it is so worth it.
